A writer who has decided to enter the field of freelance writing should know the basic tips that he should do before he starts looking for freelance writing jobs.

The basic tips for beginning freelance writers:

  • Establish goals – A writer should set goals or objectives before he applies for freelance writing jobs because the goals would guide him on the things he should achieve in a certain time and would motivate him to work harder if the time has expired and he still has not achieved some or all his goals.

  • Establish a network – A writer should establish a network of friends and acquaintances consisting of editors, researchers, graphic artists, and other writing related enthusiasts, both amateur and professionals. The network could help the writer in getting leads and referrals, especially referrals from a fellow writer if he could not do a project from a client. The network could be online consisting of social networking websites and blogs, or the traditional circle of people who share the common interests.

A beginning writer may initially find it hard to secure or get a freelance writing job because he is competing with other writers in getting projects clients. Therefore, following the basic tips would help a beginning writer to prepare himself and improve his writing skills before he starts looking for freelance writing jobs.
