For Immediate Release January 21 2010

As the world reels with news of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Rotary clubs everywhere are doing their part to help. ShelterBox, a Rotary charity, is sending disaster relief in the form of a “big green box” containing tents, cooking equipment, sleeping bags, blankets, tools. This equipment is intended to support a family of ten and cost $C1000 each.

With such a pressing need for emergency shelter provision, ShelterBox
is dispatching 700 ShelterBoxes and many more to be packed before the
end of the week. ShelterBox is using all of the resources available to
make sure immediate aid reaches Haiti. Boxes are being shipped direct
from ShelterBox HQ in England, from prepositioned stock in Curacao and from El Salvador.

The Rotary Club of Chatham members will have contributed enough to supply 5 ShelterBoxes by the end of the week, and there will be a matching $5,000 for Haiti Relief from the Government of Canada. The Club is a registered charity and is accepting other local contributions that will be added to the members’ total. People wishing to take part can contact the club at 519-354-8300/ rotaryc@ciaccess.com/ 45 Centre Street Chatham/ PO Box 836 Chatham, or call Rick at 519-351-3126, or look for Rotarians at Winter Art Crawl Jan 23 at the Cultural Centre 75 William Street N.
