Last Friday, the national judges of the Communities in Bloom made their way through Dresden, Bothwell, Thamesville, Highgate and Ridgetown with enthusiasm.
"I am really impressed with the local history and the time and effort that have gone into not only the gardens of the communities but also in the communal partnerships," judge, Stephan king said.
The judges toured Chatham-Kent not only critiquing the landscaping but also scrutinizing upon the communities tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, and urban forestry.
"What I am impressed with the most is how these local communities have tied their heritage in with their curbside appeal and landscaping," King said.
"They have taken their heritage and expanded upon it to show their community pride and it is evident in how well supported everything has been as we have travelled from community to community."
The judges began their day in Dresden with several stops along the way including lunch in the Bothwell Town Square hosted by Nancy's Country Kitchen and a historical tour of Bothwell and Tecumseh's monument hosted by Marion Matt.
"Pride is very evident in everything including how well the local cenotaphs are presented and maintained; it is obvious that these lost generations on the cenotaph also had the same pride in the communities as they fought for their right of freedom," King said.
The winners of the Communities in Bloom challenges will be released at a later date, watch the Leader-Spirit for more details.
